Home Repairs: Roof and Rain Gutter Maintenance

Every rainy season, your home is battered by rain, wind and more. Lately, each rainy season has been worse than the last. This means that when things finally dry out, you are going to have some repair and maintenance projects that you need to deal with. Take advantage of the summer season by doing home repairs, especially in the exteriors of your home. Home repair comes before new projects.

Roofs are some of the trickiest and yet one of the most important parts of the house to maintain. Unless your home is one of the many Ayala Land Premier projects, you will have to spend some time, money, and effort on maintenance. There is not a lot of point to fixing a damaged interior if your roof is still leaking.

Here are some tips you might find useful in maintaining your roof.

http://blog.dixonga.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/547608_orig.jpg
Regular cleanup
Clean debris off your roof at least once a week. Bird droppings, leaves, and other organic materials that get stuck on your roof can make your roof corrode faster.

Regular paint job
To keep your roof waterproof, repaint it at least once a year. Acid rain and other forms of precipitation can compromise the integrity of your roof from inside even before cracks show.

Regular inspection
Even if you don’t regularly cleanup, inspecting the roof often can still help prolong its life. Check your roof for weak spots after storms, at the end of the summer and before rainy seasons. These are the times when your roof is most vulnerable.

When you check your roof, your rain gutter should also be included in the list. The rain gutter is a narrow trough in your roof system that collects and diverts rainwater shed by the roof. If you’re looking to replace your rain gutters, you might want to consider seamless gutters.

Here are the advantages of seamless gutters:

Less leakage
Because seamless gutters are made up of a single sheet of metal, they have no loose parts or junctions. This makes the whole body of the gutter less prone to corrosion and leakage.

More visually appealing
Seamless gutters look better than traditional aluminum gutters because they look cleaner and more elegant without the junctions or overlaps.

Longer lasting
With the exception of the areas where one gutter is connected to the next, seamless gutters are more resistant to corrosion so they last longer.

Easier to check
Because leakages in seamless gutters develop mostly in junction sites, they are easier to check up on than traditional gutters.

These are just one part of your home that you need to regularly check, maintain or repair. Houses provide a roof above our heads – we need to make sure that it stays in top shape. This will allow us to save more money in the long run.
